UNCG Professor Honored by National Professional Organization

A UNCG professor has been recognized by the national professional organization that she helped lead for three years.

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association honored Celia Hooper, professor and head of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, at its annual meeting, an event attended by 11,000 delegates.

ASHA recognized Hooper for her three-year term as vice president for professional practices in speech-language pathology. During her term she served numerous functions, including starting the vice president’s coordinating committee on Evidence-Based Practice. The committee’s outcomes included the creation of the National Center for Evidence-Based Practice. She was recognized in a meeting of the ASHA’s legislative council meeting and during the North Carolina portion of the conference.

ASHA is a national organization for speech, hearing and language professionals that boasts a membership of more than 120,000. The conference was held Nov. 17-20 in San Diego, California.
