Associate
Professor Jim Wren of UNCG received the Outstanding
Teacher of Acting award at the Kennedy Center/American
College Theater Festival’s southeastern regional
competition in West Palm Beach, Fla., Feb. 1-6.
In connection with his award, Wren will attend the
national festival at the Kennedy Center in April.
UNCG Theatre students also won numerous awards at
the competition.
Graduate student Ginny Lee was named second alternate
in the Irene Ryan Acting Competition. Her acting partner,
graduate student Bill Raulerson, was named best partner
in the region.
Other students who won awards are:
• Will Lowry – David Weiss Lighting Award
for “Home,” honorable mention in the Barbizon
Scenic Design Competition for “Road” and
Meritorious Achievement in Design Award.
• Matt Fuller – Barbizon Lighting Award
for “Road” and Meritorious Achievement
in Design Award.
• Melissa Guyer – honorable mention in
the David Weiss Scenic Design Competition for “Sweet
Charity.”
• Laura Brignull – honorable mention in
the David Weiss Costume Design Competition for “Ghost
Sonata.”
• Erin Dougherty – David Weiss Costume
Design Award for “Carmen.”
In other news from the regional festival, Professor
Deborah Bell was nominated for a faculty design fellowship.
Fellowship recipients will spend a week during the
summer at the Kennedy Center with Ming Cho Lee, one
of the nation’s foremost set designers.
