UNCG Seeks Breastfeeding Mothers for Study

By Dan Nonte, University Relations

The Department of Nutrition at UNCG is seeking breastfeeding mothers in Guilford County for a study of bone density.

The study will compare the bone density of breastfeeding moms who exercise to those who don’t. Mothers tend to lose bone density when they breastfeed. Although they generally gain the density back when they stop breastfeeding, nursing mothers could be vulnerable to osteoporosis.

Participating mothers will receive personal training for four months, a set of hand-held weights, an exercise ball and two bone-density scans, all at no cost. Study leaders are seeking new mothers and pregnant women close to their due date.

For more information, please contact graduate student Heather Kennedy at (336) 256-1090 or hlkenned@uncg.edu.
