Trombonists
from across the region will share musical insights
and join in public concerts during the eighth annual
Trombone Festival, Saturday, April 2.
The free, one-day event at the School of Music will
feature clinics, music and instrument exhibitions,
and public recitals by professional trombonists, educators
and students of all levels. Last year, 150 trombonists
attended.
A cameo recital by several guest artists will begin
at 11 a.m. in the Organ Recital Hall. The program
will include works for solo trombone and piano and
will demonstrate different trombone styles and techniques.
Performing artists are:
• Darin Achilles - Professor of Trombone, Elon
University and Radford University
• Hoyt Andres - Professor of Trombone, North
Carolina A&T State University
• Sherri-Marcia Damon - Instrumental Music Director,
Chewning Middle School, Durham
• Brian French - Principal Trombone, Winston
Salem Symphony Orchestra
• Daniel Rice - Professor of Trombone, Cape
Fear Community College
• John Stringer - Xalapa Symphony Orchestra,
Veracruz, Mexico
• UNCG Performers - Dr. Randy Kohlenberg, Professor
of Trombone; Brian Thacker; Andrew Judd and Michelle
Polland.
The UNCG Trombone Ensemble will perform at 1 p.m.,
and the festival will conclude with a finale concert
of four trombone choirs at 4 p.m. Both concerts will
be held in Room 111 of the School of Music.
