By Tiffany Edwards, University Relations

Trombonists from across the region will share musical insights and join in public concerts during the eighth annual Trombone Festival, Saturday, April 2.

The free, one-day event at the School of Music will feature clinics, music and instrument exhibitions, and public recitals by professional trombonists, educators and students of all levels. Last year, 150 trombonists attended.

A cameo recital by several guest artists will begin at 11 a.m. in the Organ Recital Hall. The program will include works for solo trombone and piano and will demonstrate different trombone styles and techniques.

Performing artists are:

• Darin Achilles - Professor of Trombone, Elon University and Radford University
• Hoyt Andres - Professor of Trombone, North Carolina A&T State University
• Sherri-Marcia Damon - Instrumental Music Director, Chewning Middle School, Durham
• Brian French - Principal Trombone, Winston Salem Symphony Orchestra
• Daniel Rice - Professor of Trombone, Cape Fear Community College
• John Stringer - Xalapa Symphony Orchestra, Veracruz, Mexico
• UNCG Performers - Dr. Randy Kohlenberg, Professor of Trombone; Brian Thacker; Andrew Judd and Michelle Polland.

The UNCG Trombone Ensemble will perform at 1 p.m., and the festival will conclude with a finale concert of four trombone choirs at 4 p.m. Both concerts will be held in Room 111 of the School of Music.
