UNCG Bryan School Class Presents Gift

By Sean Olson, University Relations

Ten years ago, the courtyard of the Bryan School of Business and Economics was a barren stretch of dry and spotty grass at UNCG.

Since then, grass, azaleas and other flowers have been planted, paving stones have been laid and now, with a gift from the Class of 2005, two more teakwood picnic tables are in place. The Class of 2004 placed the first three picnic tables in the courtyard last year.

The Class of 2005 raised $3,528 to purchase the tables that were formally presented on Tuesday. Class Gift Committee Chairwoman Devon Isaacs said 38 percent of the class participated, surpassing the group’s 28 percent goal.

“We are very pleased that so many in our graduating class cared about our cause,” she said in her speech to the students, faculty and staff gathered at the dedication.

In addition to participation from the Class of 2005, the Bryan School Advisory Board and the Bryan faculty and staff contributed to the gift.

“On behalf of the Bryan School, I accept these picnic tables, and I am delighted that the class gift for the last two years has enhanced this courtyard,” Dean Jim Weeks said.

The Class of 2003 was the first class to present a gift to the business school, the bronze Beta Sigma Gamma key, which was placed in front of the school.

Other gift committee members include: Jennifer Carter, Matthew Fuller, Tripp Gwyn, Andrew Leonard, Cynthia Smith.
