UNCG Summer Rep's "Fuddy Meers" Begins June 1

By Kimberly Hardin, University Relations

Reminiscent of Adam Sandler's "50 First Dates," the comedy "Fuddy Meers" by David Lindsay-Abaire follows Claire, who suffers from amnesia and wakes every morning with no memory of the day before.

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro's Summer Repertory Theatre will open its season with "Fuddy Meers" at 8 p.m. from June 1 to 4, 20 and 23 in Taylor Theatre, 450 Tate St.

With the help of her husband, Claire pieces together her life everyday. However, one day's trip down memory lane takes a few bumpy turns as Claire questions her past more seriously. A limping man, claiming to be Claire's brother, kidnaps her. Along the journey she sees her mother, a stroke victim who can only speak gibberish; her teenage son with problems of his own; an ex-convict with a trash-talking puppet; and a tough lady cop.

Emily Covington, a senior in the BFA acting program, portrays the forgetful Claire. Bill Raulerson, a second year MFA directing student, directs a cast of seven in his first main stage directing experience.

"The most enjoyable aspect in this process has been working with my cast," said Raulerson. "They are enthusiastic and wonderfully talented. Each actor brings a full plate to the table."

Tickets for "Fuddy Meers" are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $7 for groups of 10 or more, $5 for UNCG students with ID, $6 for non-UNCG students with ID, and $5 for children younger than 10. A flex pass for $30 entitles the buyer to four tickets that can be used at any show or shows. A discounted flex pass price of $20 is available to UNCG faculty and staff.

Performances contain adult situations and content. Free parking for evening and weekend performances is available behind the Weatherspoon Art Museum. For more information call the Summer Rep Box Office at (336) 334-4392 or visit the Department of Theatre web site.

"Fuddy Meers" is part of UNCG’s Summer Repertory Theatre, which will also include: "The Country Club" from June 8 to 11, 21 and 24; "The Shape of Things" from June 15 to 18, 22 and 25; and "Here There Be Dragons" on June 18 and 25 and from June 21 to 24.
