UNCG's Summer Repertory Theatre will span children and adult theatre with four plays in four weeks.
Summer Rep will transform Taylor Theatre from its usual 475-seat auditorium arrangement into an intimate, 175-seat venue for the theatrical works that consider children's tales of dragons and beasts, wacky comedy, betrayal and friendship.
This season's productions will be:
- "Fuddy Meers" by David Lindsay-Abaire. 8 p.m. June 1 to 4, 20 and 23. This wacky comedy depicts a day in the life of Claire, an amnesiac who wakes up every morning with no memory of yesterday. With the help of her husband, she pieces together the past. However, one day's trip down memory lane takes a few bumpy turns.
- "The Country Club" by Douglas Carter Beane. 8 p.m. June 8 to 11, 21 and 24. A group of 20-somethings, nicknamed Pooker, Zip, Soos, Froggy, Hutch and Bri, gather in the "cub" room at a Pennsylvania country club. The play progresses through 11 holidays with the group of grown but not quite grown-up friends. Frolicking, rivalry, huddling and betrayal always prevent the holiday gatherings from going exactly as planned.
- "The Shape of Things" by Neil LaBute. 8 p.m. June 15 to 18, 22 and 25. Evelyn, a graduate art student, devotes her affection and attention to Adam, a dorky museum guard. Much to the chagrin of his friends, Adam succumbs to her wants and changes his appearance. Betrayal ensues when Adam must choose between his girlfriend and his friends.
- "Here There Be Dragons" by The Man-in-the-Moon Theatre Company. 2 p.m. June 18 and 25 and 10 a.m. and noon June 21 to 24. Especially suited for children, storytellers share funny and exciting dragon tales. Stories include fictional monsters, serpents and beasts from around the world.
Tickets for "Fuddy Meers," "The Country Club" and "The Shape of Things" are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $7 for groups of 10 or more, $5 for UNCG students with ID, $6 for non-UNCG students with ID, and $5 for children younger than 10. A flex pass for $30 entitles the buyer to four tickets that can be used at any show or shows. A discounted flex pass price of $20 is available to UNCG faculty and staff. Performances contain adult situations and content.
Tickets for "Here There Be Dragons" are $6 for adults, $5 for children and $4 for groups of 10 or more. This performance is appropriate for children of all ages.
