Will Read for Food Nov. 16

By , University Relations

Michael parker

Novelist and professor Michael Parker has organized Will Read for Food since 1995.

For more than a decade, writers associated with UNCG have traded time and a reading of their works for a good cause – feeding the needy.

The 11th annual Will Read for Food will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 16 in the Weatherspoon Auditorium, located at the intersection of Spring Garden and Tate Streets. Admission is a suggested donation of $5 for students and $10 for the general public. All proceeds benefit the Greensboro Food Bank, which provides food to charitable agencies throughout the area, including kitchens, child-care centers and foster homes.

Featured writers this year will include Fred Chappell, Ann Deagon, Stuart Dischell, Lauralynn Dossett, Terry Kennedy, Craig Nova, Michael Parker, and Lee Zacharias.

Will Read for Food was first organized as “Writer’s Harvest” in 1994 by UNCG English Department faculty member Hope Hodgkins. Since 1995, the annual benefit has been run by novelist and short story writer Michael Parker and has featured faculty from the MFA Writing Program at Greensboro as well as other authors from across the Triad.

Paid parking is available at the Walker Avenue Deck. For a map of the campus, click here. For more information on Will Read for Food, call the MFA Writing Program office at 336-334-5459.
