The North Carolina Theatre for Young People and UNCG Theatre present “Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse,” a play about family, friendship and forgiveness, in Taylor Theatre Nov. 12-20, 2005.

Based on books by Kevin Henkes and adapted for the stage by Kevin Kling, the play will be performed at 2 p.m. Nov. 12-13 and Nov. 19-20; 9:30 a.m. and noon Nov. 15-18; and 8 p.m. Nov. 18. The one-hour play is intended for children 3 and older.

Lilly, a little mouse full of ambition and youthful enthusiasm, loves school, especially her new teacher, Mr. Slinger. When she receives an exciting new purple plastic purse, she can't wait to show it to her class, but Mr. Slinger has other ideas.

The play is directed by Rachel Briley. Randy McMullen designed the scenery, Melissa Guyer designed the lighting, and Kate Welsh designed the costumes.

Tickets are $7 for adults; $6 for seniors and children; and $5 for UNCG students with ID, UNCG alumni, and groups of 10 or more. Free parking for evening and weekend performances is available behind the Weatherspoon Art Museum. For more information, call the University Box Office at 336-334-4849 or visit www.uncg.edu/the.

“Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse” will be followed by Flannel Shorts Nov. 30-Dec. 3. The spring portion of the 2005-06 UNCG Theatre season begins in February. The next play for children is “Charlotte’s Web” March 17-19.
