Faculty Share Expertise at AD/HD Conference Nov. 5

Four faculty members – Drs. Arthur Anastopoulos, Stephanie Kurtts, Carl Lashley and Terri Shelton – will each make a 90-minute presentation at an attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder conference at Koury Convention Center in Greensboro Nov. 5.

The UNCG School of Education, the UNCG Department of Psychology and the Greensboro Area Health Education Center are sponsoring “Evidence-Based Approaches to the Assessment and Treatment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: A Lifespan Perspective.” Anastopoulos and Ginger Parnell, a full-time lecturer in the UNCG Department of Specialized Education, are members of the event’s planning committee.

Other nationally recognized speakers include Dr. George DuPaul, professor and coordinator of the Lehigh University School Psychology Program; Dr. Kevin Murphy, director of the Adult ADHD Clinic of Central Massachusetts; Dr. Michael Gordon, professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at SUNY Upstate Medical University; and Dr. Scott Kollins and Dr. Allan Chrisman, both from Duke University Medical Center.

The conference is designed for professionals who work with people with AD/HD, but it is open to anyone, including parents of children with AD/HD and adults with AD/HD.
Registration costs $120 until Oct. 28 and $140 thereafter. Full-time college students can attend for $60, and UNCG students can attend for $30. The fee includes lunch. The convention center is at 3121 High Point Road.

9-10:30 a.m. – Keynote: “Where’s the Impairment?” – Michael Gordon, PhD

10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. – Concurrent Session I
• Overview of AD/HD – Arthur Anastopoulos, PhD
• Identifying and Managing AD/HD Among Preschoolers – Terri Shelton, PhD
• Identifying and Managing AD/HD in Elementary School – George DuPaul, PhD
• Identifying and Managing AD/HD Among College Students – Kevin Murphy, PhD

1:15-2:45 p.m. – Concurrent Session II
• Identifying and Managing AD/HD in Middle/High School – George DuPaul, PhD
• Identifying and Managing Adult AD/HD – Kevin Murphy, PhD
• Bipolar Disorder and Other Comorbid Conditions – Scott Kollins, PhD
• Academic Strategies – Stephanie Kurtts, PhD, and Kimberly Bowie, MEd

3-4:30 p.m. – Concurrent Session III
• Multimodal Treatment – Scott Kollins, PhD
• IDEA and 504 – Carl Lashley, EdD
• Parent Training and Home Management – Drew Edwards, PhD
• Medication Management – Allan Chrisman, MD
