Progressive writer, peace activist and lecturer Paul Loeb will visit The University of North Carolina at Greensboro for a day of events with the public, students, faculty and staff on Thursday, Oct. 27.

Loeb has spent more than 30 years writing about civic responsibility and activism. His most recent book, “The Impossible Will Take a Little While: A Citizen’s Guide to Hope in a Time of Fear” (2004), is an anthology of essays by himself and others, including Howard Zinn, Cornel West, Desmond Tutu, Marian Wright Edelman and Tony Kushner.

His keynote address, at 5 p.m. in Curry Building Auditorium, is free and open to the public.

Loeb also has written the books “Soul of a Citizen: Living with Conviction in a Cynical Time” (1999), “Generation at the Crossroads: Apathy and Action on the American Campus” (1994), “Hope in Hard Times” (1987), and “Nuclear Culture” (1982).

According to his web site, his writing on social involvement has appeared in The New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, Utne Reader, Mother Jones, Village Voice, National Catholic Reporter and Chronicle of Higher Education.

He has been interviewed on CNN, NPR, PBS, C-SPAN, NBC and the BBC, and has lectured on more than 300 college campuses. His 2002 talk at the provost’s conference of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities inspired the American Democracy Project, his web site says. He is an affiliate scholar at Seattle's Center for Ethical Leadership.
