Phil Richman, the recently retired vice chancellor for business affairs, has been honored for his 34 years of service to state government.
He received the Barry K. Sanders Award, which recognizes North Carolina state employees for “outstanding contributions and service to state budgeting, planning and agency management in state government.” The award was presented earlier this month at the annual state conference of the Office of State Budget and Management.
Richman retired Sept. 30, but is continuing in an interim role during the search for a new VC. He came to UNCG in 1981 as director of accounting and budgets, serving until being named vice chancellor for business affairs in 1995. Before UNCG, he worked at UNC-Chapel Hill, N.C. State University and Western Carolina University.
In his role as UNCG’s chief business officer, Richman also has been treasurer the UNCG Excellence Foundation, the Human Environmental Sciences Foundation, the Weatherspoon Art Foundation and the UNCG Investment Fund.
