Dr. Robert Wineburg, Jefferson Pilot Excellence Professor in the Department of Social Work, has been invited to address the Milton S. Eisenhower Foundation Forum on Public Morality in Washington Oct. 24-25.
He will make a presentation on the effectiveness of “faith-based” versus secular nonprofits. The forum celebrates the 75th birthday of the late Father Geno Baroni and will result in a book.
Baroni was assistant for neighborhoods at the Department of Housing and Urban Development during the Carter Administration. His office made grants directly to grassroots nonprofits, both secular and religious.
The Eisenhower Foundation is the private sector continuation of two of President Johnson’s commissions – the Kerner Riot Commission of 1967 and the National Violence Commission of 1968. The foundation describes the forum as part of its “ongoing initiative to strengthen progressive infrastructure in America.”
Wineburg has been on the UNCG faculty since 1980. He served as department chairman from 1990 to 1994 and has written extensively about social welfare policy, including the book “A Limited Partnership: The Politics of Religion, Welfare, and Social Service.” He received his doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh.
He recently was named to the Fulbright Senior Specialists Roster, a list of candidates eligible to be matched with requests from overseas academic institutions.
