"If You Want Me to Stay" is Parker's newest novel. He will read Sept. 21 at UNCG.
UNCG will feature the newest fiction from one of its most noted writers.
Novelist and professor Michael Parker will read at 8 p.m. Sept. 21 in the Weatherspoon Auditorium from his latest novel, “If You Want Me to Stay.” The event is free, open to the public and sponsored by the MFA Writing Program and the Greensboro Review. The reading will be followed by a reception and book signing.
Parker is the author of three other novels, including “Hello Down There,” “Virginia Lovers” and “Towns without Rivers.” He has also penned “The Geographical Cure,” a collection of shorter fiction. “Hello Down There” was named “A New York Times Notable Book.” His stories have also appeared in “Shenandoah,” “Oxford American,” “The Georgia Review,” “Five Points” and other journals. He has received the Goodheart Prize, the Sir Walter Raleigh Award, and fellowships from the North Carolina Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. A new collection of stories, “Don’t Make Me Stop Now,” is forthcoming in 2006 from Algonquin.
A native of Clinton, Michael Parker received his MFA from the University of Virginia and his BA from the UNC – Chapel Hill. He is a member of the MFA Writing Program faculty at UNCG.
