Art lovers are in for a treat when UNCG hosts its inaugural Arts on the Green, an event that promises everything from jazz to dance to clips from award-winning films.
The free, family-oriented event runs from 1-6:30 p.m. Sept. 25 inside and outside Elliott University Center in conjunction with FallFest 2005.
“UNCG is the only university in the UNC System that offers a terminal degree in every arts discipline. Therefore, we are able to offer an incredible range of artistic expression,” said Anne Willson, director of ArtsLink. “For the first time, many of our programs are coming together to showcase their art on the same afternoon, free of charge.”
The lineup includes:
• a performance by the UNCG Jazz Ensemble, sponsored by the School of Music;
• clips from award-winning entries in North Carolina’s longest running film festival, sponsored by the Department of Broadcasting & Cinema;
• a scene from the Tony Award-winning play “Urinetown, The Musical,” sponsored by the Department of Theatre; and
• a performance by Mason Curse, an alternative rock band from High Point, sponsored by WUAG, 103.1 FM; and
• a site-specific, student-choreographed performance, sponsored by the Department of Dance.
Larry Lavender, head of UNCG’s Dance Department, said the goal of the event is simple: Show people the joy of artistic experience.
