16th Annual Children’s Festival Oct. 1 at UNCG

By , University Relations

Hijinks abound at the annual Children's Festival.

At the 2002 Children's Festival, face painting was apparently done with pies.

UNCG joins the Guilford County Coalition on Infant Mortality and SAFE Guilford to host the 16th Annual Children’s Festival & Health Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 1. Cricket Communications is a gold level event sponsor.

This year’s event offers more than 100 fun-filled activities and free bicycle helmets for the first 300 children. The entertainment will include a petting zoo, magicians, puppet shows, music, dance, balloon art, face painting, pony rides and jewelry design.

The festival will be held 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Residence Hall Quadrangle near Walker Avenue and West Street at UNCG. Free parking is available in the Walker Avenue parking deck. In case of rain, all activities will be held in the Health & Human Performance Building adjacent to the Quad.

This year’s Children's Festival offers more than 100 fun-filled activities.

Children paint during a previous festival.

About 75 Teaching Fellows from the School of Education will interact with children and demonstrate their skills as they prepare for careers in education. The festival will provide families with information about health, safety and services offered by the Guilford County Department of Health.

“We believe the partnership between UNCG, the Coalition on Infant Mortality and SAFE Guilford gives children and families the best possible opportunity to learn about the efforts being made in education and health in our community,” said Event Coordinator Jane Shoemaker.

“This year, we hope to see additional children and families who will enjoy the festivities while learning more about the importance of healthy and safe lifestyles.”
