WUAG 103.1 FM, UNCG's student radio station, today released a special double disc CD “18 Watts Is Better Than None.” In celebration, a CD release concert will be held April 29 at The Flying Anvil.
Playfully titled after the station’s 18-watt broadcast power, the CD set features artists that have either come by the WUAG studios or performed at one of the WUAG Presents Concerts. The first CD contains 14 tracks from national artists. The collection reflects genres from indie rock, folk and hip hop to electronic. The second CD features 16 tracks from North Carolina-based musicians. The music on this CD includes indie rock, hip hop and reggae.
Local audiences will have the opportunity to hear live three of the featured N.C. bands (Blank_Blank, Endless Mic, and Cities) during WUAG’s CD Release Show Saturday, April 29 at 8 p.m. The station is holding the show at The Flying Anvil, one of Greensboro’s newest venues, co-owned by Pete Schroth (owner of the Green Bean) and Andrew Dudek (owner of Gate City Noise). Also performing will be special guest, Megaband. Turning music into a multimedia experience, Megaband plays the soundtrack to the 1988 Nintendo game “Mega Man II” while two Nintendo gamers beat the game in less than 40 minutes.
Tickets cost $10, which includes a copy of the CD and membership (worth $3) to The Flying Anvil, located at 219 West Lewis St. Tickets are available at the door or through the venue web site, www.theflyinganvil.com.
The station will begin CD sales at Macrock, the Mid Atlantic College Radio Conference, April 7-8, in Harrisonburg, Va. The 10th annual conference brings together thousands of students and industry representatives from college radio stations across the country. After Macrock the CD will be for sale at www.wuag.net and in record stores throughout North Carolina.
