Students board a HEAT bus at a cul-de-sac near Elliott University Center.
Getting around Greensboro has never been easier for students. They just show their First Card and go.
For the next three years, UNCG and other area colleges are taking part in the Higher Education Area Transit initiative, better known as HEAT.
For the university, the buses are part of a plan to optimize roads and parking. For students, it’s an easier way to get around.
One bus route is dedicated solely to UNCG. It starts at the cul-de-sac at the base of Jackson Library, travels down Walker Avenue, turns left on Elam, then onto Spring Garden and then finally back on Walker again. “Who does that serve? UNCG, baby,” said Mike Byers, assistant vice chancellor for business affairs.
Another route begins at the Depot; stops at Greensboro College, College Hill and UNCG; and returns to the Depot.
“From the Depot, our students can go anywhere in the world,” Byers said.
Finally, a third route will connect campuses with stops at Guilford Technical Community College, Bennett College, N.C. A&T, Greensboro College, UNCG, Guilford College, and the Elon Law School, and end at the Depot.
