Dr. Kelly Rowett-James has joined UNCG as university registrar, effective Aug. 1.
The appointment was announced by Dr. Cynthia Farris, associate provost for enrollment services. In her new position, Rowett-James will be custodian of all of UNCG’s student information and confidentiality.
Among her responsibilities are student records, registration, course and classroom scheduling, transfer student articulation, technology implementation, degree audits, graduation clearance, commencement planning, and veterans and athletic certification.
“We are delighted that Kelly has joined Enrollment Services in this very important position,” said Farris. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to UNCG and the University Registrar's Office.”
Before taking the UNCG post, Rowett-James was with the University Registrar’s office at UNC Chapel Hill, serving most recently as an assistant university registrar since 2003. Earlier, she was a specialist there in computer training and project development from 2001-03. From 1994 to 1997, she was an administrative assistant in the registrar’s office at the University of Texas at Austin.
A graduate of Dickinson College, she received an MFA degree in theatre/playwriting at UT-Austin, and earned the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in communications studies at UNC-CH.
