The John Gamble Dance Theater will present an informal contact improvisation at 8 p.m. Aug. 26 in the Dance Theater.
Contact improvisation is just what the name suggests: two dancers improvising while in physical contact. It emerged in 1971 under the guidance of Steve Paxton and has been described as a combination of art and sport with its roots in aikido, a Japanese martial art.
Admission is free, but seating is limited. The Dance Theater is at Walker Avenue and Kenilworth Street on the UNCG campus. Tickets can be picked up at the door or in advance from the Box Office, (336) 334-4849.
John Gamble, professor of dance, will direct the cast of alumni and students, which includes Amy Beasley, Heather Doyle, Christine Kiernan, Todd Fisher, Kristina Larson, Erin Leigh, Alexander Lieberman, Jennifer McNure, Carrie Plew and Ashlee Ramsey.
