Dr. Terri Shelton, director of the Center for Youth, Family and Community Partnerships at UNCG, has been appointed to the North Carolina Mental Health Planning and Advisory Council.

The council is an advisory group that annually reviews the state’s plan for community mental health services block grants before the plan is submitted to the federal government. Last year, the grants totaled $10.5 million. The council also monitors and evaluates the allocation and adequacy of mental health services.

The council meets six times a year in Raleigh. Shelton will serve a three-year term as the council’s education/training of professionals representative.

She came to UNCG in 1995 and is a professor in the Department of Psychology.
