Man of La Mancha

Broadway musical 'Man of La Mancha' comes to Greensboro.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – “Man of La Mancha,” the acclaimed musical version of Cervantes classic Spanish novel “Don Quixote,” will be performed on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. at the Carolina Theatre, 310 S. Greene St. in downtown Greensboro. The performance is part of the UNCG University Concert & Lecture Series.

Set during the Spanish Inquisition, the musical tale follows the journey of self-appointed knight Don Quixote de la Mancha and his squire, the wisecracking Sancho Panza. Together, the unlikely duo set out on a picaresque journey to right all the wrongs in the world and to win the heart of Aldonza, the long-suffering woman of Quixote’s dreams.

The score includes favorites such as “The Impossible Dream,” “Dulcinea” and the title song “I, Don Quixote.”

“Man of La Mancha” is a tragic-comic story of one man’s single-minded quest for justice, chivalry and pure love set against the backdrop of medieval Spain. The musical is a stage tribute to Don Quixote’s romantic idealism in a world of cold realism.

“Man of La Mancha” was the biggest hit of the 1965 Broadway season. The show earned Tony awards for best musical and best score and libretto.

Tickets are $34, $29 and $24. Seniors, children under 12 and students receive a $2 discount. UNCG student tickets are $9, $8 and $6. For ticket information, call (336) 334-4849.

Tickets are available through the University Box Office web site at http://boxoffice.uncg.edu and through the Carolina Theatre box office by calling (336) 333-2605.
