From Iran to China, from human rights to energy issues and pandemics, UNCG will tackle tough topics with its annual global economic and foreign policy lecture series.
The Center for Global Business Education Research, part of the Bryan School of Business and Economics, will host “America in the Global Economy,” a series of lectures at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday, beginning March 16 and ending April 27. Each lecture will take place in the Bryan School Auditorium, room 160. Also offered as an MBA course, the series is open to the public for a fee of $30, including textbook. Registration is required.
“America in the Global Economy” is led by Dr. Riad Ajami, director of the center and the Charles A. Hayes Distinguished Professor of Business. Assisting Dr. Ajami will be Dr. Paul Muchinsky, Joseph M. Bryan Distinguished Professor of Business. Speakers include Dr. Ajami and Mary Lynn Briddell, the executive in residence for the center. The series dates and topics are:
• March 16. “UN Reform.” Speaker Dr. Robert J. Griffiths, associate professor, UNCG Department of Political Science.
• March 23. “China & India: Partners or Competitors?” Guest Speakers Jason Goddard, central underwriter and assistant vice president at Wachovia Bank, and Daniel Lim, president and CEO of SV International Corp.
• March 30. “Energy Resources.” Speaker Dr. Ajami.
• April 6. “Human Rights in the Age of Terrorism.” Guest Speaker Dr. Thomas J. Badey, associate professor of Political Science, Randolph Macon College.
• April 13. “The U.S. and Iran.” Guest Speaker Dr. Jalil Roshandel, visiting assistant professor of political science, Duke University.
• April 20. “Brazil.” Guest Speaker Dr. Wendy Wolford, assistant professor of geography, UNC –Chapel Hill.
• April 27. “Global Health Pandemics and Security.” Guest Speaker Mary Lynn Briddell, patient director oncology/infusion therapy, Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, Virginia and CGBER executive in residence.
The series is sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association, and the seminars are presented annually by the center as part of the national “Great Decision” series.
