Nancy Callanan, director of UNCG’s Master of Science Program in Genetic Counseling, will speak about her field at 7:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, in Room 200 of the Science Building.
Callanan is also president of the National Society of Genetic Counselors. Her speech, “Genetic Counseling: Providing Information and Support to Help People Manage Genetic Risks,” is sponsored by the Greensboro chapter of Sigma Xi, the National Scientific Honor Society.
The talk, free and open to the public, will explain genetic counseling and touch on the related social and ethical issues. The March of Dimes, a nonprofit organization devoted to preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality, recommends genetic counseling for anyone who has questions about the origins of diseases or family traits.
The Science Building is at McIver and Carr streets. Visit http://www.uncg.edu/online_map/ for a map of the campus. Parking is available in the McIver Street parking deck for $1 per hour or on any city streets as marked.
