UNCG hopes to make the most difficult part of some women’s lives a little easier.
The Center for Women’s Health and Wellness, in collaboration with the Junior League of Greensboro, has created the “Greensboro Community Resource Guide for Breast Cancer,” a 40-page, comprehensive guide to local, state and national resources for women with the disease. The guide includes nearly 50 state agencies and local businesses that may assist women and their families after being diagnosed with breast cancer. The guide is a collaboration of the Center for Women’s Health and Wellness and the Junior League of Greensboro with community partners Moses Cone Regional Cancer Center and Alight Inc.
“We hope this helps women find all the resources they need to help them navigate the difficult journey from diagnoses, treatment and recovery,” said Dr. Paige Hall Smith, director of the center, which created the guide as part of its breast cancer survivorship initiative.
The guide will be handed out to every woman diagnosed with breast cancer through the Moses Cone Regional Cancer Center, the Breast Center in Greensboro and Bertrand Breast and Osteoporosis Center. The guide will also be passed out at some conferences and events, including Cancer Survivor Day.
The need for the guide is great, unfortunately. Moses Cone Health System estimates that it diagnoses approximately 600 Guilford County women with breast cancer every year.
