By , University Relations

As the Baby Boomer generation reaches its 60s, businesses must to adapt to what is expected to be the most diverse and active group of retirees in American history. The businesses most successful at adapting to this growing market – the so-called “Silver Industries” – will bring their expertise to UNCG for a one-day summit.

Sponsored by the Gerontology Program and the Bryan School of Business and Economics, “Aging is Good Business: The Silver Industries Model” will be begin 9 a.m. April 3 in Cone Ballroom, Elliot University Center. Registration is $75 if received before March 15, $100 before March 27 and $10 for UNCG faculty and students. Preregistration is required. Sponsorship and exhibition registrations are also available.

The preliminary schedule includes:
• “The Silver Industries as Models,” a presentation by Dr. Neal Cutler of Widener University
• “Retirement Migration to North Carolina: An Economic Opportunity” by Dr. Charles Longino, Wake Forest University.
• “How Marketers Should and Can Target the ‘New’ Elderly” by Steve Mason, vice president and chief of marketing for AARP Inc.
• Lunchtime invited keynote speaker Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue.
• Panel discussion: “Opportunities in the Silver Market.”
• “The Future for Businesses in an Aging Society,” a presentation by Dr. H.R. “Rick” Moody, director of the office of academic affairs at AARP.

The “Silver Industries” conference is just the latest innovation of the gerontology and business programs at UNCG. This year, the Gerontology Program and the Bryan School launched the joint-MS in Gerontology/MBA program. In January, Gerontology hosted a course for individuals seeking the registered financial gerontologist designation.
