UNCG will host a soul-stirring concert by one of its MFA dance students.
Alexandra Joye Houston, a student pursuing her MFA in the Department of Dance, will perform her thesis project, entitled “Soul Stories,” at 8 p.m. March 31 and April 1 at the UNCG Dance Theatre on Walker Avenue and Kenilworth Street.

Houston’s project incorporates dance performance with collaboration through poetry, live music and sculpture. Houston and her cast will perform the choreography of Gerri Houlihan, John R. Stronks and Robin Gee. The performance also includes the poetry of Josephus III, music by UNCG students and sculpture by Erik Beerbower of the Lyndon Street Galleries in Greensboro.
A native of the Washington, D.C. area, Houston holds a BA in drama and dance/pre medicine from Spelman College in Atlanta. She has performed with the Wesley Williams Urban Dance Theatre and currently performs with The Collective. She is also the founder of Artists Unite!, a student organization dedicated to serving the community through the arts.
