Momix Brings Surreal Dance to UNCG

By , University Relations

Passion

Momix brings "Passion" to UNCG April 6.

A nationally renowned dance company has teamed up with an internationally known musician and will bring their art to UNCG.

Momix will bring their show “Passion” to the university as the season finale for the University Concert/Lecture Series at 8 p.m. April 6 in Aycock Auditorium. Tickets are $22, $19 and $15 for the general public, and $9, $8 or $6 for UNCG students.

“Passion,” directed by Momix leader Moses Pendleton and scored by Peter Gabriel, explores the realm of spirituality and mankind in an eclectic, colorful and oft-times playful performance.

The New York Times said, “‘Passion’ affirms the sacredness of the universe,” and that Pendleton’s “work is rich in mixed-media magic.” The Dallas Morning News said, “A combination of dream, magic, light show and hymn to the glories of the human body, the production has to be one of the most inventive and fascinating creations hatched by anyone.”

Momix is a self-described group of “dancer-illusionists” who have been under the direction of founder Pendleton for 20 years. The group has been celebrated for its surreal images, and use of props and light, shadow and humor. The group has performed throughout the country and the world, including Europe, China and the former Soviet Union.

The group has also been featured on the PBS series “Dance in America.” Pendleton’s credentials include work in Paris, Italy, Berlin, Munich and a host of other foreign venues. In 1980, he choreographed the closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, N.Y. In addition to “Dance in America,” Pendleton’s work has also been featured on the “Great Performances” series on PBS.
