Bryan School Recognizes Outstanding Students & Faculty

The UNCG Bryan School of Business and Economics recognized outstanding students and faculty at a May 12, 2006, graduation and awards ceremony.

The ceremony included the presentation of the Academic Excellence Medals, the Joseph M. Bryan Achievement and Leadership Awards, the Dean’s Service Awards, the Delta Sigma Pi Key, the Outstanding Graduate and Undergraduate Student Awards, the Teaching Excellence Awards and the Wall Street Journal Award.

Academic Excellence Medals
Academic Excellence Medals are awarded to undergraduate students who are in the top 5 percent of their graduating class and have a 3.90 GPA in their business coursework. Graduate students must have a 3.90 cumulative GPA. Recipients are:

Bryan Achievement and Leadership Award
The Bryan Achievement and Leadership Awards are given on recommendation of a student and faculty committee. Recipients are selected based on their academic achievement, service and leadership contributions to the school, the university and the community.

Dean’s Service Awards
The Dean's Service award recognizes service to the Bryan School, the university, and/or the community. A minimum GPA of 2.50 for undergraduate students and a 3.00 for graduate students is required for consideration. Recipients are:

• Lisa Clear (Gastonia), BS in Business Administration and in International Business

The Delta Sigma Pi Key
Sharon McLeod (King’s Mountain), who received a BS in Business Administration, is the recipient of the Delta Sigma Pi Key. Every year, the international fraternity recognizes an undergraduate who had the highest GPA for four years of study at the Bryan School. The key is awarded to the student for outstanding academic achievement.

Outstanding Graduate/Undergraduate Students
The Bryan Outstanding Undergraduate Student and the Bryan Outstanding Graduate Student awards recognize graduating students who have enriched the school’s learning environment through commitment to academic performance, professional and service activities, or support of other students. Recipients are:


• Otto Angulo (Bogota, Columbia), MBA
• Andrew Leonard (Albemarle), BS in Accounting
• Lauren Mintz (Winston-Salem), BS in Finance, Insurance and Real Estate
• Eleftherios Xixis (Greensboro), BS in International Business and in Information Systems and Operations Management.

The Wall Street Journal Award
Sean McGinnis (Greensboro), who received his MBA, is the recipient of the Wall Street Journal Award. The award recognizes one graduate for the 2005-06 year. It is the highest award presented by the Bryan School. The recipient is chosen from among the Bryan Achievement and Leadership Award recipients from the December and May graduating classes.

Teaching Excellence Awards
The teaching awards, given to one tenured and one non-tenured faculty member, are given to faculty nominated by students, faculty and staff. The Faculty Development Committee, along with student representatives, review nomination materials and select recipients. Each award includes a $1,000 stipend.


• Non-Tenured Teaching Award: Ms. Eloise Hassell (Greensboro). Hassell teaches courses in legal environment in business and employment and human resource law. She has been with the Bryan School since fall of 1989.
• Tenured Teaching Award: Dr. Kevin Lowe (Greensboro). Lowe teaches various courses, including Introduction to Community Leadership, Organizational Behavior, Strategic Analysis, and numerous other courses. Lowe joined the Bryan School in 1998.
