Marge and Jake Michel established a $200,000 endowment for UNCG's Teaching Resources Center five years ago.

Now they have increased that endowment by pledging an additional $100,000 over the next three years.

Marge Michel earned a master’s degree in reading education from the School of Education at UNCG. On their visits to campus, she and her husband noted the heavy use of the center, she said.

“I had seen all the changes and growth at UNCG, and I was so impressed with the quality of education there. It was a good place to make a contribution.”

The gift has been made as part of The Students First Campaign, UNCG’s $78.2 million capital fund drive that is currently under way. Center Director Karen Gavigan said the Michels’ generosity will help the center grow.

“This money will enable us to increase the resources we have so it can be a state-of-the-art, model curriculum center for education,” Gavigan said.

The center, located in the Ferguson Building, serves students, faculty and staff within the School of Education as well as current teachers across the Triad. Available resources include children’s books, state-approved textbooks, professional books for teachers, audio books and videos. UNCG students and faculty can also check out laptops, data projectors and cameras for classroom use.

The Teaching Resources Center collection is catalogued through Jackson Library.

“With such offerings as PRAXIS training software, books, text books, audio/video equipment and other technology media, the Teaching Resources Center is vital to students,” said Dale Schunk, dean of the School of Education. “The TRC provides an opportunity for our students to have access to these media and print resources for educational and professional use. The Michels’ continued support of the Teaching Resources Center is a wonderful gift for our students.”
