GREENSBORO, NC - “UNCG does it again,” Chancellor Patricia A. Sullivan told those attending the luncheon that capped the campus’ 2006 State Employees Combined Campaign. The final total was $239,374, surpassing a goal of $200,000.

“Our campus really cares about people,” Sullivan said, “Our campus demonstrates it again and again … We see lots of needs out there. We do all within our means to reach out. We’ve had another great SECC!”

David Vaughan, assistant vice chancellor for academic resources in the Office of the Provost, chaired the 2006 campaign, which kicked off in August with the motto “Continuing the Tradition: Support and Service.” The 2007 chair for UNCG’s campaign will be Dr. John Locke, a professor in the School of Music.

UNCG joins other state agencies and universities each year in raising money for hundreds of charitable organizations that receive funding through the SECC, which was created by then-Gov. Jim Hunt in 1984.

North Carolina’s consolidated university system typically raises more than half of the statewide pledges for SECC. In 2005, UNC employees pledged $2.73 million of the $4.75 million contributed by all state employees. UNCG employees contributed 5 percent of the total dollars raised by UNC campuses in 2005. Within the university system, UNCG is usually the third highest contributor among all campuses.
