GREENSBORO, NC - Amanda Lawing, a junior at UNCG, has received the inaugural Community Impact Student Award from the North Carolina Campus Compact.
She was presented with the award Nov. 11 at the annual NCCC Student Conference a Nov. 11 ceremony at N.C. State University during. This award will be presented each year to students who have made significant, innovative contributions to campus-based efforts to address community needs. Lawing, who is from Hope Mills, is among 21 college students from across North Carolina to be recognized for their outstanding achievements.
North Carolina Senator Janet Cowell and Representative Linda Coleman presented the award to Lawing during the conference’s Awards Ceremony Luncheon before an audience of more than 240 college students representing 26 schools and 3 states.
Lawing is majoring in Communication Studies and Spanish with a K-12 teaching license. She is president of Circle K and is a member of the Honors College, Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Fraternity, N.C. Teaching Fellows and also works at the school’s Speaking Center. Lawing’s personal motto is, “Though I cannot fly, I’m not content to crawl.”
North Carolina Campus Compact is a statewide coalition of college and university presidents and chancellors dedicated to encouraging and supporting community engagement.
