GREENSBORO, N.C. - Dr. Laurie Kennedy-Malone, associate professor of nursing at UNCG, is the first recipient of the National Conference of Gerontological Nurse Practitioner’s Excellence in Education Award.
Kennedy-Malone was honored at the annual NCGNP convention Sept. 29 in Ponte Verde, Fla., and was also recognized as one of the pioneers of the organization. She was instrumental in NCGNP’s efforts to advocate for direct Medicare reimbursement for nurse practitioners while she served as legislative chair from 1992-95.
From 1997-98, Kennedy-Malone served as president of NCGNP, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary. At UNCG, she has been director of the adult/gerontological nurse practitioner program in the School of Nursing since 1992.
Kennedy-Malone is one of the authors of “Management Guidelines for Nurse Practitioners Caring for Older Adults,” which is now in its second edition and has been translated into Italian.
