GREENSBORO, N.C. - Lifelong physical activity can reduce the risk of breast cancer by 40 percent, studies suggest.
The First Annual Center for Women’s Health and Wellness JV Field Hockey Tournament will spread that message and support young female athletes Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13 and 14, at Greensboro Day School.
During breakfast Saturday, a speaker from the Susan G. Komen Foundation of the Triad will give a 20-minute talk about adolescent breast health and physical activity. The tournament is sponsored by The Center for Women’s Health and Wellness at UNCG, Murphy & Wainer Orthopedic Specialists, Longstreth, Clara Marie’s Authentic Southern Bakery, Head to Toe Hockey, Inc., Harris Teeter Distribution Center and Biscuitville.
The YWCA of Greensboro, Pyramids Wellness Center, the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Center and the Yoga Institute will host booths on the Saturday morning of the tournament to showcase the physical opportunities each offers for adolescent girls of the Triad.
Participating high schools are Carlisle, Chapel Hill High, East Chapel Hill High, Forsyth County Day, Greensboro Day and Providence Day.
