Fred Chappell

Fred Chappell is among the writers who will read at a benefit for the Greensboro Food Bank.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Some well-known Triad writers will do their part for the community Nov. 16 when UNCG hosts the 12th annual “Will Read for Food” benefit. The event will run from 7-9:30 p.m. in UNCG’s Curry Building Auditorium on Spring Garden Street.

Writers Fred Chappell, Stuart Dischell, Jennifer Grotz, Craig Nova, Michael Parker, Mark Smith-Soto and Lee Zacharias will read from their works. The suggested donation is $5 for students and $10 for the general public.

The fund-raiser will also include a raffle of autographed books and photographs, with raffle tickets available at the door. All proceeds will go to the Greensboro Food Bank, which distributes food to charitable agencies including soup kitchens, child-care centers and foster homes.

“Will Read for Food” was first organized as “Writer’s Harvest” in 1994 by UNCG English department faculty member Hope Hodgkins. Since 1995, the annual benefit has been run by novelist and short story writer Michael Parker and has featured faculty from the MFA Writing Program at Greensboro as well as other authors from across the Triad.

Parking is available in the Oakland Avenue Parking Deck. Details are available by calling the MFA Writing Program at (336) 334-5459.
