If there appear to be more students in the lunch lines, there is a good reason.
Fall 2006 features the largest undergraduate enrollment as well as the largest overall enrollment in the university’s history, according to Dr. Cynthia Farris, associate provost for enrollment services.
Enrollment is “robust at all levels,” she said, noting in particular the large increase in transfer population, which numbers 1,380. The freshman class is also the largest ever, at 2,427.
There are 12,692 undergraduates and 3,132 graduate students this fall, for a total “headcount” on campus of 15,824 students. Combine that total with the distance learning students and the total is 16,632. There are 11,350 women, 5,282 men, and 1,479 students are from out-of-state. Last year's enrollment was 16,060.
"We are particularly pleased at the ethnic makeup of our freshman class,” Farris said, noting that the percentage of identified ethnic minorities had reached 30.1%.
She also added that while, nationally, universities have been reporting a marked decrease in incoming freshmen’s SAT scores, UNCG’s scores have held up well. The average this fall was 1044.
