Fiddler Brings Highlands to Greensboro

By Jill Yesko , University Relations

Bonnie Rideout

Bonnie Rideout.

Celebrated fiddler Bonnie Rideout, renowned for her traditional Scottish dance tunes, will bring her repertoire of Celtic music to the Carolina Theatre in Greensboro at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2006.
The performance is part of the University Concert/Lecture Series, a year-long schedule of eclectic events sponsored by UNCG.

Rideout’s unique style of fiddling has earned her fans on both sides of the Atlantic. She is the only American to hold the honor of representing Scottish fiddle music at the prestigious Edinburgh International Festival. Her performances of ancient Gaelic melodies and contemporary tunes span five centuries of musical heritage. Rideout’s music is frequently featured on National Public Radio’s the Thistle and Shamrock show and two of her recordings have received Grammy nominations.

Joining Rideout for the performance will be the world champion City of Washington Pipe Band, a 30-piece bag pipe and drum group who will perform jigs, reels, hornpipes and marches from the Scottish tradition.
Tickets are $26, $22 and $18. Seniors, children under 12 and students receive $2 discount. UNCG student tickets are $9, $8 and $6.

For ticket information, call (336) 334-4849. Tickets will also be available through the University Box Office web site at http://boxoffice.uncg.edu and through the Carolina Theatre box office by calling (336) 333-2605.
