Dr. Sarah Morris of UCLA.
Dr. Sarah Morris, a classicist and archaeologist with The University of California, Los Angeles, will visit UNCG Sept. 21 and 22, 2006, as a Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar.
Morris is the Steinmetz Professor of Classical Archaeology and Material Culture in the Department of Classics and the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology at UCLA. She will visit classes, speak informally with students and give a public lecture.
Her schedule is as follows:
Thursday, Sept. 21:
• 12:15-1:30 p.m. - Lunch Talk: “Isaac and Iphigenia: Human Sacrifice in Antiquity” - Faculty Center.
• 2-3:15 p.m.- Class Lecture open to interested students and faculty: “The Archaeology of Ancient Greek Slavery”- Room 103, Cone Art Building.
• 8-9 p.m. - Public Lecture: “Apollo, Poseidon and the Walls of Troy: Homer and Archaeology” - a reception will follow - EUC Auditorium.
Friday, Sept. 22:
• Noon -1 p.m. - Lunch with Strong College students and fellows – University Dining Hall.
A graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, Morris earned a PhD in Classical Archaeology from Harvard University in 1981. Her visit is co-sponsored by UNCG’s Department of Classical Studies and Phi Beta Kappa.
