Writer James Whorton Jr. will read at UNCG Oct. 5, 2006.

Whorton, author of the novels “Frankland” and “Approximately Heaven,” will read at 8 p.m. in the UNCG Faculty Center on College Avenue. The event, sponsored by the MFA Writing Program and The Greensboro Review, is free and open to the public. A reception and book signing will follow.

Whorton’s “Approximately Heaven” was a Barnes & Noble “Discover Great New Writers” selection. His short fiction and essays appear in a variety of newspapers, journals and magazines, including The Washington Post, The Sewanee Review and the Oxford American.

Whorton studied at the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Wales and Johns Hopkins University. He is an assistant professor at SUNY College at Brockport and lives in Rochester, N.Y., with his wife and daughter.
