"A Long Way Gone" was selected as the 2007 MALS READ.

GREENSBORO, NC – Ishmael Beah’s “A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier” will be the subject of the 2007 MALS READ, a free community program offered by the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies Program at UNCG.

The READ begins at 7 p.m. May 15 in the Weatherspoon Art Museum Auditorium on Spring Garden Street.

“A Long Way Gone” is the firsthand account of a 12-year-old boy swept up in Sierra Leone’s civil war, and forced to become a “boy soldier.” Dr. Jeff Jones, a history professor at UNCG, will lead the discussion.

All participants should read the book, widely available in area bookstores, before the READ.
