GREENSBORO, N.C. – A Blossoms and Blues conference will be held Monday and Tuesday, April 23 and 24. The event will be part of the annual Conference on African American Culture Experience (CACE) sponsored by the Department of African American Studies.
Monday’s events include a guitar workshop hosted by blues musicians Big Bump, David Bolton and Sheila Klinefelter at 2 p.m. followed by a harmonica workshop led by Big Bump. Both events will take place in the Alexander room in Elliott University Center.
A concert featuring the Ladies of the Blues will begin at 5 p.m. on the west lawn of Elliott University Center. The day concludes with a film recounting the history of the blues at 7 p.m. in the Alexander Room, EUC.
Tuesday’s schedule begins with a mini-concert by the Blues Board at 2 p.m., followed by a lecture by Ralph Speas, archivist from the Piedmont Blues Preservation Society at 3:30. Both events will be held in the Joyner room, EUC. Keynote speaker Mondre Moffett will present a lecture titled “Jazz, Blues and Payin’ Dues,” at 5 p.m. in the EUC auditorium. The evening finishes with a blues jam featuring various local musicians at 7 p.m. in the EUC auditorium. All events are free and open to the public.
