GREENSBORO, N.C. – The class of 1957 has presented UNCG with a class gift of $613,665, the second-largest gift in the history of class gifts to the school.
The gift was presented to Chancellor Patricia A. Sullivan during the 114th meeting of the UNCG alumni association held during reunion weekend, Friday and Saturday, April 13-14.
Presenters were co-chairs JoAnne Safrit, PhD, of Silver Spring, Md., and Mrs. Peggy Welch Lambeth of Greensboro, along with “everlasting” class president Mrs. Sadye Dunn Doxie of Washington D.C.
Class members were encouraged to give to whatever program, fund, scholarship or other designation had special meaning to them from across the six schools, the College of Arts and Sciences and other parts of the university, said Miriam Fields, associate director of annual giving.
“Class gifts honoring a class’s 50th anniversary have been a continuous tradition since 1915,” said Laura Pitts, assistant vice chancellor for constituent programs. “It has been wonderful for the university to have the interest and support that these gifts have provided.”
Funds from the gift will go towards the Student’s First Campaign, UNCG’s capital $100 million campaign that is underway, which has raised more than $75 million to date.
