GREENSBORO, NC – Vicki McCready, director of the UNCG Speech and Hearing Center and professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, has been honored by the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

The council presented her with an Award of Appreciation for her distinguished service and professional contributions April 13 at its annual meeting in Palm Springs, Calif. A fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), McCready specializes in clinical education and supervision, interpersonal communication, and administration.

She is a founder and past president of the North Carolina Association of Supervisors in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology, and past president of the national Council of Supervisors in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology. She served for six years as one of North Carolina's Legislative Councilors to ASHA. In 2004, she received the Honors of the North Carolina Speech-Hearing-Language Association, and in 2006 she received the Gail M. Hennis Teaching Excellence Award for Graduate Faculty in the School of Health and Human Performance (HHP) at UNCG.

At UNCG, she is a clinical educator and serves as a faculty advisor for students’ research projects. She is finishing a four year personnel training grant from the US Department of Education in the area of literacy impairments in juvenile delinquents. In fall 2002, she was promoted to professor in the academic professional track in HHP.
