GREENSBORO, NC – Undergraduate Jackie Haywood and graduate student Yun-Wen Wang, both in the UNCG Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, have received $1,000 Quota Club of Greensboro scholarships.
Founded in 1919, Quota International is known especially for its service to deaf, hard-of-hearing and speech-impaired individuals and disadvantaged women and children. Members share the values of serving and encouraging others, developing friendships, and promoting international understanding.
Haywood, a senior from Mt. Gilead, has also received the merit-based Butler Centennial Scholarship. She is treasurer of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association and a manager in the University Speaking Center.
She has worked as an undergraduate research assistant in the CSD department and is assisting an audiologist in the university’s Tinnitus Clinic. After graduation, she plans to pursue a Doctor of Audiology degree.
Wang, from Taipei, Taiwan, has completed internships at the UNCG Speech and Hearing Clinic, Sternberger Elementary School, and the Center for Voice and Swallowing Disorders at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
She received a graduate assistantship from spring 2006-spring 2007. She will graduate with a master’s degree in May and plans to work with adults who have various communication disorders.
