Expert Discusses Islamist Mobilization April 10

GREENSBORO, NC – Dr. Jillian Schwedler, a political science professor at the University of Maryland at College Park, will speak Tuesday, April 10, at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her topic will be “Islamist Mobilization and the Challenges of Political Inclusion: Two Cases – Jordan and Yemen.”

The presentation is part of UNCG’s Democracy and Security in the Middle East Series sponsored by the Center for Legislative Studies, the Department of Political Science, the Kohler Fund, International Programs, the Lloyd International Honors College, the Political Awareness Club and the International/Global Studies Program. Schwedler’s speech begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Weatherspoon Art Museum Auditorium.

The presentation is free and open to the public. Parking is available behind the museum off Tate Street.

Schwedler is the chair of the board of directors for the Middle East Research and Information Project, which publishes the quarterly journal Middle East Report. She has conducted extensive field research in Egypt, Jordan and Yemen, and traveled widely throughout the region. Her current research interests include political Islam, social movements, democratization and transnational public spheres. Schwedler has just returned from holding the position of senior research fellow of the Arab Archives Institute in Amman, Jordan.
