GREENSBORO, NC – Seniors majoring in UNCG’s Department of Dance will present “Doing What We Do,” a collection of choreography ranging from hip hop to ballet, from modern to afro-Caribbean, at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, April 26-27.

The capstone concert, one of two presented by seniors in the department, takes place in the Dance Theater at Walker Avenue and Kenilworth Street on the UNCG campus. Tickets – $10 for general admission, $7 for seniors and students, and $5 for UNCG students – can be reserved through the UNCG Box Office at (336) 334-4849.

The program includes:
• “Chiffad Inspired a’ LA” by Melissa Jackson features energetic dancers performing to songs such as “My Love” by Justin Timberlake. Dancers in the music video-inspired piece are decked out in some of Jackson’s favorite fashion items: shoulder pads and chiffon.

• “Have some water; it’ll make you feel better. i don’t know why it just does” by Thomas Newkirk explores the serene and tranquil essence of water, and how it aids in the body’s experiences of traveling through a journey of self acknowledgement and closure.

• “The Assault on My Heart” by Whitney Evans chronicles the education of a young woman and the damage she receives at the hands of a twisted and unforgiving world.
• “Dancing Felines” by Aymen Robertson features three dancers who combine original movement, chance phrasing and improvisation to the music of Santana.

• “Tri-BRY” by Cherie Avent explores the spatially triangular relationship between three dancers in circular pathways, weight sharing and the use of color.

• “A Girl Who Knew Too Little” by Kathleen Kerner, tells the story of a girl whose fantasy of the ideal partner gets a little out of hand and ends up manipulating her to the breaking point.

• “Out of Context” by Kristin Blanchard ends the concert with The Pussycat Dolls, Tchaikovsky and collected text phrases woven into a chaos of speech, song and vigorous movement.
