GREENSBORO, N.C. – Dr. James Benshoff, a professor in the Counseling and Educational Development Department, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc., and Affiliates (NBCC) in Greensboro.
He will serve a three-year term.
Benshoff has taught at UNCG for 18 years and was named full professor in 2003. He earned his doctorate in counseling and development from American University in 1988. Recently he concluded a three-year presidency with the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. His research interests include counseling adolescents, training counselors and counselor supervision.
NBCC is the national certification board devoted to credentialing counselors who meet standards for general and specialty counseling practices. Founded in 1982 in Washington, D.C., NBCC is an independent, not-for-profit credentialing body. It offers the field’s flagship credential — the National Certified Counselor (NCC) — the only general practice counseling credential with nationwide recognition. Today over 40,000 professional counselors throughout the world hold the NCC credential.
