Dance Department Announces Fall ’07 Season

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Department of Dance’s fall 2007 season includes the North Carolina Dance Festival and work by students, faculty and alumni.

All performances will be at the UNCG Dance Theater in the Health and Human Performance Building, corner of Walker Avenue and Kenilworth Street. Tickets are available through the UNCG Box Office, (336) 334-4849.

The season’s performances include:

• 8 p.m. Aug. 31. The Gate City Remnants. American folk and roots musical performance by Frank Vulpi, John Gamble, Jennifer McNure and Steven Smith. Free.

• 8 p.m. Sept. 21. Passport Dance/Art Gathering. Beginning in the late afternoon, this multi-cultural event produced by faculty members Eluza Santos and Robin Gee will bring together artists from different art forms, including dance, music and visual arts. It will culminate in the evening dance concert. Tickets $6-$12.

• 8 p.m. Sept. 29. Alumni Homecoming Dance Concert featuring Jahna Bobolia (BFA, 2004), Christine Kiernan (MFA, 2005), Paul Besaw (MFA, 1992), Stephanie Blackmon (BFA, 2005), Heather Mims Kaczmarek (BFA, 1997), and Traves Butterworth (MFA, 1999). Tickets $5-$10.

• 8 p.m. Oct. 18-20. North Carolina Dance Festival. For more information, visit the festival’s web site. Tickets $9-$15.

o Oct. 18. Lauren Kearns, Jyoti Argade, Jan Van Dyke Dance Group, Brad Parquette, Eluza Santos (all from the Triad area).

o Oct. 19. alban elved dance company (Winston-Salem), Nelson Reyes (Asheville), Christina Tsoules Soriano (Winston-Salem), Talani Torres (Raleigh).
o Oct. 20. Cara Hagan (Winston-Salem), Niki Juralewicz (Durham), Heidi Godfrey (Greensboro), Caroline Calouche (Charlotte).

• 8 p.m. Nov. 1-3. “The Tragic End of Lust: A Tale of the Seven Deadly Sins.” John Gamble Dance Theater. Tickets $9-$15.

• 8 p.m. Nov. 15-17. Duane Cyrus Concert. Cyrus Art Production. Tickets $6-$12.

• 8 p.m. Nov. 28-Dec. 1. Faculty Concert. This annual concert features choreography and performances by members of the Department of Dance faculty as well as undergraduate and graduate students. Tickets $5-$10.

• 8 p.m. Dec. 7; 2 p.m., 8 p.m. Dec. 8. Departmental Concert. This concert, held once every semester, provides an opportunity for students and faculty to show off their work. Tickets $6-$12.
