GREENSBORO, NC – Bernice A. King, daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will deliver the keynote address Tuesday, Jan. 22, during UNCG's 2008 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration.
The celebration, sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, runs from 7-9 p.m. in Cone Ballroom, Elliott University Center. Also on the agenda is presentation of the Martin Luther King Service Award and a performance by the Neo-Black Society Gospel Choir.

Bernice King, youngest daughter of Dr. King and Coretta Scott King, spoke in her mother’s stead at the United Nations at age 17. Since then she has addressed audiences at the White House, AT&T, UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke University, the U.S. Department of Defense and the Salvation Army. She has spoken in Sydney, Australia; Lubeck, Germany; Auckland, New Zealand; and South Africa. In the summer of 2000 she narrated the “Lincoln Portrait” backed by an orchestra in Keil, Germany, during the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival.
King is a graduate of Spelman College with a B.A. in Psychology. She earned Master’s of Divinity and Doctor of Law degrees from Emory University. She has also received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity degree from Wesley College. She is currently a member of the Georgia State Bar. In 2007 she established the Be A King Scholarship at Spelman to honor her late mother.
