Graduate student Debbie West and Professor Rick Reitzug take part in Empty Bowls Jan. 24.
GREENSBORO, NC – The UNCG community has raised $1,426 for Greensboro Urban Ministry through Empty Bowls, a nationwide program to fight hunger.
Students, faculty and staff painted 260 bowls Jan. 8-12. After being fired, those bowls were sold for a donation of at least $4. Bowl buyers received a free soup lunch courtesy of Aramark.
Empty Bowls began in 1990 to assist food banks, soup kitchens and other organizations that aid the hungry. This year marked the program’s fourth year at UNCG.
At UNCG, the program was made possible by the support of student volunteers, The Carolinian, Aramark, Leadership and Service-Learning, Student Life, Multicultural Affairs, and Housing and Residence Life: Make a Difference House.
